The Ordinary Outflow of Our Extraordinary Rescue

To live missionally, by embracing the posture, the thinking, behaviours, and practices of a missionary to reach others with the message of the Gospel, should be the ordinary outflow of our salvation.

Things to remember about our extraordinary rescue:

    1. God graciously initiated our rescue (vs. 1-8)

    - We were all helpless and hopeless, “dead in our transgressions and sins” (cf. Eph. 1:1; Rom. 3:10-11)

    - BUT GOD demonstrated His love for us and sought us (Rom. 5:8; Jn. 3:16; 2 Cor. 5:21; Lk. 19:10; Jn. 6:44; 1 Jn. 4:19)

We are not simply bad people made good; we were dead people who have been made alive in Christ. Praise God, He is still on mission, and no one is so ‘far gone’ that they are beyond the reach of God’s saving grace and rescue.

    2. God graciously orchestrates the completion of our rescue (vs. 10-19)

    - To those who are committed to live missionally, God gives the opportunity to be on the front lines of His rescue mission

    - One of the joys of being rescued is being adopted into a family of brothers and sisters in the faith (Jn. 1:12-13; Eph. 2:19)

Thank the Lord for the faithfulness of those who lived missionally and shared the Gospel with you. Even though we may never see the complete rescue of someone, we must be faithful to use the opportunities God orchestrates for us to be involved in their journey (cf. 1 Cor. 3:5-9).

    3. God graciously designates us to be His ambassadors after our rescue (vs. 19b-22)

    - Not only do we receive a new identity in Christ, but we are also entrusted with His mission (cf. 2 Cor. 5:17-20)

    - Relying on the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, along with fellowship of the believers, allows us to be effective in our role as Christ’s ambassadors (cf. 1 Cor. 2:4; Heb. 4:12; 10:24)

As Christ’s ambassador, how strong of an appeal are you making to those enslaved to sin and walking in darkness? If you have been rescued by God’s grace through faith in Jesus, then let this encourage you to both represent and proclaim the Good News of His Kingdom (cf. Ps. 51:12-13).
