The Greatest Miracle
Changing the World Forever
Matthew 28
Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is the greatest miracle because it changed the course of history and the world forever. The hope of our eternity rests on the absolute truth of this miracle.
This supernatural act of God glorified Jesus as:
1. The Promised Messiah (vs. 5-6a)
- The ultimate proof that Jesus is the promised Messiah is His miraculous resurrection from the dead
- God makes the final affirmation and declaration of Jesus’ identity and ministry by raising Him from the dead (cf. Rom. 10:9)
- Jesus came as the Messiah first and foremost to deliver people spiritually by redeeming them from their sin (cf. Isa. 53:5-6; 2 Cor. 5:21)
“Because I live, you also will live” (Jn. 14:19b).
2. The Divine Son of God (vs. 8-9, 17a)
- In His incarnation, Jesus was not only fully human, but He also remained fully God (cf. Col. 2:9)
- In His incarnation, His divine nature included omnipotence (Heb. 1:1-4), omniscience (Jn. 2:25), and perfection (2 Cor. 5:21)
- Jesus is God, therefore, He is worthy of our worship and adoration (Rev. 4:11; 5:12-13)
“Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only” (Mt. 4:10b).
3. The Lord of All (vs. 16-20)
- The title “Lord” declares Jesus’ deity and His power as God (cf. Jn. 20:28; Acts 2:36; Acts 10:36)
- Through His death and resurrection, Jesus demonstrates His authority over life and death, sin and Satan (cf. Jn. 10:18; 11:25-26; Rom. 6:9; Col. 2:15; Heb. 2:14-15)
- Jesus has authority over our lives and He is our rightful Lord and Master (cf. 1 Cor. 6:19-20a; 1 Pt. 1:18-21)
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations… and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Mt. 28:19-20).
Praise God, Jesus [The Promised Messiah, The Divine Son of God, The Lord of All] is risen! He is risen indeed!
