The Consequences of Spiritual Drift

    Nehemiah 13

    1. SPIRITUAL DRIFT PULLS YOU AWAY FROM THE TRUTH (vs. 1-9)

    a. When the Word of God is central to our lives, it is impossible for us to drift. The Word of God keeps us anchored to the truth.

    b. As believers, resolved to becoming a fully devoted discipleship of Jesus Christ, we cannot put a high enough price tag on the value of good influences in our lives.

“Bad company corrupts good character” - the people you surround yourself with—and the ideas they promote—will inevitably shape your own habits, morals, and behaviour over time (cf. 1 Corinthians 15:33).

    2. SPIRITUAL DRIFT DISTORTS WORSHIP PRIORITIES (vs. 10-22)

    a. Spiritual drift capitalizes on sin nature’s desire for selfish pursuits.

    b. Replacing God-made purpose with self-centred pursuits. They imported from the secular and pushed out what is spiritual.

    3. SPIRITUAL DRIFT CHALLENGES FAMILY LEGACY (vs. 23-31)

    a. We understand that no faith-filled family can perpetuate itself if it cuts itself off from its “faith language” roots.

    b. Cleanse the temple! - being the temple of the Holy Spirit, our bodies are not ours, they belong to the Lord. So, we work to keep them free from the pollution like that of the Eliashib-and-Tobiah partnership, permitting nothing that God prohibits.
