Live Missionally
Seeing People Through a Missionary Lens
To be effective on mission, we need the Lord to clean off our ‘spiritual lenses’ so that we see people the way He does. Unless we see people through a ‘missionary lens,’ we will struggle to declare Jesus is King to whomever, wherever, and whenever.
As Christ’s ambassadors, we need to see people through the following lenses:
1. Compassion – Apart from Christ, people are lost and need to be found (vs. 1-8)
- As missional followers of Christ, we need to wake up each day and ask Jesus to help us see people the way He does (cf. Mt. 9:36, Lk. 19:10)
- Those who are devoutly religious can still be lost and are in need of being found (cf. Mt. 15:8-9; Mt. 23:27-28)
Do you see people through a missionary lens? Do you need a new prescription for the eyes of your heart? Compassionately seeing people who are separated from Christ as lost and in need of a Saviour will dramatically affect how you live as Christ’s ambassador.
2. Clarity – God does not show favouritism (vs. 9-33)
- The Good News of the Gospel is for everyone, without distinction (cf. Gen. 12:3; Ps. 86:9; Is. 56:6-7; John 3:16; Rom. 10:13)
- Seeing others with Gospel clarity helps to keep us humble, and to recognize that we would still be lost, but for the grace of God in our own lives (cf. Eph. 2:3-5)
Do you see those around you as potential heirs of God’s saving grace? Do you view those who are different and who do things you do not approve of as potential candidates for the Kingdom? The Lord sees any prejudices in your heart and mind; all humans are created in His image (cf. 2 Cor. 5:16).
3. Conviction - Motivated to share the Good News of Jesus Christ (vs. 34-48)
- Do not be ashamed of the Gospel, “it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes” (cf. Rom. 1:16, 1 Cor. 1:18-31)
- Be prepared to share the Good News about the truth of Jesus Christ, “in season and out of season” (cf. 2 Tim. 4:2; 1 Pt. 3:15)
Are you unashamed to share the Good News of Jesus Christ? Do you have faith in what God can do when you share the Gospel? Seeing people through the lens of conviction will motivate you to be a part of God’s mission to seek and save the lost.
