Out of Darkness
The Glory of the Light of the World
John 9:1-38
Have you encountered the gracious, saving, and transforming power of Jesus Christ in your life? If so, rejoice and live each day with a sense of gratitude and marvel at the goodness of God who led you to His Son, changing your life forever (Jn. 6:44).
Jesus, the Light of the World, is glorified through His:
1. Conviction – To do the work the Father sent Him to do (vs. 1-5)
- At the very heart of God’s work are people created in His image (cf. Jn. 3:16-17)
- Jesus fulfilled the Word of God by carrying out specific deeds in complete obedience, and He calls us to do the same (cf. Jn. 15:10; 1 Jn. 2:5-6)
How convicted are you to do the work Jesus has sent you to do? He tells us that we are the salt of the earth, the light of the world, His ambassadors, and His messengers of reconciliation who are to go into all the world and preach the gospel. “As long as it is day,” we must do the Lord’s work, who saved us and sent us!
2. Creative Power – Bringing light into what was only darkness (vs. 6-12)
- Jesus, through whom all things were created, can do “new-creation work” in people’s lives (cf. Gen. 1:1-3)
- Jesus knows God’s purposes and can do what no one else can do (cf. Mk. 10:27b)
Do you ever find yourself discouraged, thinking that the problems you are facing are too complex to be resolved? We serve a powerful Saviour and King through whom all things were created. He is before all things and in Him all things are held together, including your life (cf. Col. 1:16-17). His intention is to display His power and light in our lives.
3. Credentials – Declared by those who opposed Him and knew little about Him (vs. 13-34)
- Jesus performs miraculous signs (cf. vs. 16b; 3:2)
- Jesus is a prophet who is the Ultimate One sent from God to proclaim His Word, perform miracles, and call people to turn back to God (cf. vs. 17b)
- Jesus is a godly person who does the Father’s will (cf. vs. 31; Jn. 4:34; 6:38)
- Jesus does what no one else has heard of, proving He is from God (vs. 32-33)
Understanding the credentials of the One whose hands our lives are in, gives us great assurance, comfort, and strength (cf. Jn. 10:27-29).
4. Commitment – To seek and save the lost (vs. 35-38)
- Being found by Jesus is a result of His divine initiative (cf. Jonah 2:9; Rom. 5:8b; 1 Jn. 4:19)
- By His grace, God calls us out of darkness into His marvelous light (cf. 1 Pt. 2:9)
How are you responding to your life-changing encounter with Jesus, the Light of the World? Are you living each day as an act of worship to Him? Are you declaring His praises and sharing the facts of His transforming love and power in your life with others?
