Not to Us! God Alone is Worthy of Our Worship

Full Service

Throughout the Psalms we are called to worship the one true God. WHY?

His Steadfast Love and Faithfulness!

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever. (Psalm 136:1)

His Powerful Greatness!

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom. (Psalm 145:3)

His Highest Position!

For the Lord Most High is awesome,
the great King over all the earth. (Psalm 47:2)

The one true and only God…

1. Sovereignly Acts for His Glory (vs. 1-8)

  • God is able to do whatever He wants
    • He is never forced to do anything He doesn’t want
    • He is never a victim of circumstance
  • God takes pleasure in everything He does
  • To God be the glory forever (Romans 11:36)

Out of His perfect love and faithfulness, God will always do what is right for His glory and our good.

2. Lovingly Cares for His People (vs. 9-15)

  • God helps, defends, protects, and sustains
  • He remembers and blesses us now and forever
    • with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3-6)
    • current sufferings are incomparable to the future glory (Romans 8:18)
    • nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:28-39)

God remembers those who fear Him. Trust Him and you will be eternally blessed.

3. Perfectly Desires His People to Worship Him Forever (vs. 16-18)

  • Dead people can’t praise Him
  • We are called to be “living sacrifices” - this is our “spiritual worship” (Romans 12:1-2)
  • Our God has a jealous desire – no other gods (Exodus 20:3-5)
  • Our highest calling is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30)

Who and what we worship matters! Our highest passion must be for His glory.

“We are saved to worship God. All that Christ has done in the past and all that He is doing now leads to this one end.” (A.W. Tozer “Whatever Happened to Worship?”
