Maximizing Our Witness Impact
Are you maximizing your witness impact? To those who are lost, “we are Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” “Be reconciled to God” (2 Cor. 5:20).
Maximizing our witness impact will require:
1. Proclaiming Boldly: Jesus Christ is Saviour and King (vs. 1-9)
- There is only one way to God, and that way is Jesus (cf. Jn. 14:6; Acts 4:12)
- With gentleness and respect (cf. 1 Pt. 3:15)
- Intentionally give people time to reason with them from the Scriptures; explain and prove to them who Christ is and what His mission entailed (cf. 1 Cor.15:3-4)
Based on Paul’s example, how are you doing in maximizing your witness impact? Are you faithful to boldly proclaim that Jesus is the only way to God, or do you choose to not ‘rock the boat?’ How much time do you intentionally give to dialogue with those in your circle of influence who are lost?
2. Partaking Persistently: God’s Word (vs. 10-14)
- We must be witnesses who both proclaim the truth from the Scriptures and take in the truth of the Scriptures (cf. Mt. 4:4)
- We must approach God’s Word with a teachable attitude (cf. Ps. 119:12, 18, 27, 33-36, 66, 125; Jas. 1:21), great eagerness (1 Pt. 2:2-3), diligence (Jn. 17:17; 1 Thess. 5:20-21; 1 Jn. 4:1), and persistency (Josh. 1:8; Ps. 1:1-3)
Are you staying spiritually hydrated through persistently partaking of God’s Word? In which of the four qualities above do you need the Lord to help you grow? If you struggle as His witness, reflect on your commitment to persistently partake of God’s Word.
3. Preparing Compassionately: Take advantage of every opportunity (vs. 16-34)
- Unless we learn to look at the lost through a missional lens, we will not be stirred in our hearts to compassionately proclaim the Good News of Jesus (cf. Mt. 9:36-38)
- We must be prepared to engage people with the truth no matter who they are or where they are (cf. 1 Cor. 9:19-23)
- We must be prepared to take people through the storyline of the Bible with clarity and simplicity, starting with God, creation, fall, redemption, and restoration
How do you see and feel about the lost in our city and in your neighbourhood? Does it concern you knowing that many of them are heading into eternity separated from God, and are liable to His wrath? Every day, God sovereignly orchestrates contact points with people who cross our paths. Like Paul, let’s prepare ourselves to compassionately take advantage of every opportunity to be a witness.
