How SIN Happens

Genesis 3:1-6

Full Service

How did the first man and woman go from Wow to Woe so quickly?
How did good become bad so quickly?
Why do serpents slither?
Why do women bear children painfully?
Why does the land produce weeds and work produce toil?
Why did the first child kill his brother?
Why is there sickness, suffering and death?
Why did Christ have to die?

Life lessons learned from an Oh Henry bar and Jesus’ half-brother, James.

Satan’s schemes take advantage of our wrong desires. (2 Cor. 2:11; Eph. 6:10f; Jas. 1:14,15; 1 Jn. 2:15-17; 1 Peter 5:9)

From desires to death—the lifecycle of unstopped sin…

  • Desires dictate decisions
  • Wrong desires “impregnated” by action birth sin
  • Sin birthed and nurtured to grow to maturity births death!

Desires that pull you to sin - DesireGOD

1. The desire to be independent—“Did GOD…?” - Talk to God

2. Unmet desires – “DID God really…?” - Desire things above

3. Exaggerated cravings – “from ANY tree…?” - Know God’s Word

4. Desires begin to sit in judgement of God – “Did God REALLY say…?” - Fight feelings with facts

5. Ambitious desires – “you will be LIKE God…!” - Practice contentment

6. Desires that foster unbelief –“you will not SURELY die…!” - What you crave will consume you

Wishing to be shrewd (‘arum), they woke to discover they were nude (arom)—their great awakening was to discover they had less!
