Nehemiah 3
When it comes to accomplishing the work of the Lord, there are no spectators. Every believer must present themselves as a willing servant of the Lord (cf. Ezra 5:11; Neh. 2:20).
Principles of Kingdom service:
1. Every believer must be a contributing participant
- The glory of God is what should drive us to do everything with excellence (cf. 1 Cor. 10:31-32)
- God is glorified and praised when we use the gifts we have received to serve others (cf. 1 Pt. 4:10-11)
- If we don’t take the glory of God seriously, we run the risk of settling for the status quo
Is the glory of God the top priority for you? If so, is that evident in how you serve Him, both in the marketplace of life and within the body of Christ? If you are not a contributing participant in strengthening and building up the body of Christ here at Calvary, it’s time to get in the action! Move from being a spectator to a contributing participant.
2. Ordinary believers serving together accomplish extraordinary things
- God uses ordinary, willing people to accomplish His purposes and display His glory (cf. 1 Sam. 16:7; Acts 4:13; 1 Cor. 1:26-29)
- Every member of the body of Christ is important and has a vital function to fulfill (cf. 1 Cor. 12:12-14, 18-20)
- To see God’s Kingdom advance, we must not grow weary in doing good and give ourselves fully to the work of the Lord (cf. 1 Cor. 15:58)
Do you see your work as a platform for serving the Lord, or is it just a means to an end (cf. Col. 3:23-24)? The perspective we have of work and serving Him will greatly impact how we conduct ourselves in both the marketplace and in the body of Christ (cf. Php. 2:14-16a). Let us fully commit to serving together for the glory of God, so that we might see what extraordinary things He will allow us to be a part of.
3. Every place God assigns you to serve is strategic and according to His will
- Never underestimate where God establishes your steps to serve Him. He has placed you where you are for His purposes (cf. Mt. 5:13-16; 1 Pt. 2:12)
- Working to glorify God’s name and fulfill His purposes starts at home and continues the moment you leave the front door (cf. Josh. 24:15b)
- Find assurance in the truth that God establishes your steps and avoid the traps of comparison and envy (cf. Eccl. 4:4; 1 Thess. 4:11-12)
How is your attitude towards where God has placed you to be His ambassador? Does how you serve Him in the marketplace and in the church accurately reflect how you serve Him in your home? Let’s spur one another on to serve our Lord faithfully, as one body working side by side, and to advance His Kingdom by His grace, through His strength, and for His glory.
