By Faith Noah - Take God’s Word Seriously

Full Service

Noah believed that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. He did not deceive himself by merely listening to God. He did what God said. How serious do you take God’s Word?

Hebrews 11:7 - Three blessings when you take God’s Word seriously:

1. Courage to live counter-cultural (Gen. 5:28-6:9)

- For children of God, living counter-cultural means living according to His will, not ours (cf. Rom. 12:2; Rom. 8:5-6, 14).

- One of Satan’s primary tactics is to tempt people to compromise – to not take God’s Word seriously (cf. Gen. 3:1, 4; Dt. 5:32)

- To combat compromise, daily exercise your faith by walking with God and earnestly seek Him (cf. Ps. 119:1-2; 2 Pt. 1:3)

Are you courageously living counter-cultural? When it comes to issues that are in opposition to God’s will, is it obvious to others that you live according to a different set of values? Are there areas in your life where you are not taking God’s Word seriously and are living with the frustration and regret of compromising, simply to blend in? If so, confess and turn from your sin, start taking God’s Word seriously, and through His power, daily walk with Him and earnestly seek Him (cf. Eph. 6:10-11; James 4:7)

2. Commitment to obey and faithfully serve the Lord (Gen. 6:11-17)

- The commands of God are not something we need to pray about, we simply need to wholeheartedly commit to obeying them (Ps. 119:60; Lk 11:28)

- The commitment to walk in obedience to God is proof of our love for Him (cf. 1 Jn. 5:3; Jn. 14:15, 21)

- Being committed to obeying the Lord means not only saying a determined “no” to compromise, but it also means saying a daily and dedicated “yes” to the Lord (cf. Mt. 16:24)

How are you doing in expressing your love for God through walking in obedience to His commands? Being committed to walking in obedience with the Lord and faithfully serving Him can have an impact far beyond what you might expect. As we commit to obediently and faithfully serve the Lord over the long haul, God will use us to make His appeal to others, to be reconciled to Himself. How appealing and effective is your witness?

3. Confidence to trust in God for our salvation (Gen. 6:18)

- We become “heirs of righteousness by faith” not by anything we have done (cf. Eph. 2:8-9; 2 Cor. 5:21)

- Trusting God’s assurance of our salvation should empower us to move forward on mission without doubt or fear (1 Jn. 5:11-13; Jn. 10:27-30; Jn. 6:39-40; Eph. 1:13-14)

- God provided a better covenant, established through Christ’s sinless life, sacrificial death on the cross, and supernatural resurrection (Jn. 3:16; Heb. 7:22)

Are you trusting God and enjoying the peace that comes from the assurance of your salvation? If not, take God’s Word seriously, you can confidently trust that you are saved based on the promises God has declared. We can find the assurance of our salvation in the objective truth of God’s Word. By faith, take God’s Word to heart and have confidence about the reality of your eternal salvation. Take joy in what God’s Word says, trusting in God as your Saviour.
