Why The Royal Visit?

#5 Jesus Came To Destroy the Works of the Devil

How many of you like contests?

Greatest contest in the Bible?

Royal visits? Monarchists get all excited about the details.

The most spectacular Royal Visit was made by the KING of kings!

“A thousand times in history a baby has become a king, but only once in history did a King become a baby.”

Memory Verse - “He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”     I John 3:8

1. The Prediction of the Conflict

CREATION

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

God created…said…saw…called…made….

And it was good….

A perfect couple living in a perfect neighbourhood—What could possibly go wrong?

FALL

Genesis 3:6 she saw….. she desired ….. she took

The template for all sin. – (cf. James 1:13-15)

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity  between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”

2. The Pinnacle of the Conflict

The story of Scripture is the story of spiritual conflict.

History is HIS story – God’s story of anticipating the MAIN EVENT.

Through history – Satan’s story of seeking to disrupt the MAIN EVENT.

e.g. Family Tree of Jesus Christ – Matthew 1

Abraham – the friend of God… David – the man after God’s own heart….

Women in the Family Tree – Tamar – Rahab – Ruth – Uriah’s wife

Matthew 1 & 2 – Joseph’s Account Luke 1 & 2 – Mary’s Account

Revelation 12 – The Spiritual Warfare Account

of the BIRTH of Jesus Christ (Christmas)

3. The Purpose of the Conflict

Read through the 4 accounts of his life, his death, his burial, his resurrection.

He resists the devil.  (Mt. 4, Lk 4) He confronts the devil’s strategy in his disciples.

Christ died for our sins.  He was buried.  He rose again…according to the Scriptures.

The letters (epistles) interpret and apply Christ’s victory in this conflict.  (I John 3:8)

Memory Verse - “He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”
