We're currently looking for new leaders to lead programs, chaperone events, attend retreats and to be available to students for the coming school semester and beyond. This page has been posted to answer intial questions you may have regarding participation in this area of Calvary Baptist Church ministries.
---------------------------- ------------------------------
Where do you need help most?
Our immediate need is for our Friday night Grade 7 & 8 program (twice a month plus a few extended events) and for Thursday night high school program (weekly plus a few extended events.)
How much time is requried per week?
A minimum of an hour a week for task based roles and usually at least two (2) hours a week for roles where you are expected to develop and maintain relationships with teens from our church and community.
Do I need a background check?
All youth leaders must be familiar with our children's policy, pass a criminal records check, and have pastoral approval before joining the student ministry team.
Do I need to be a member of Calvary Baptist Church?
As a matter of accountability to one another, all people on our team are members or would be in the process of becoming a member here.
How old do I have to be to get involved?
We have people helping us who are stil in their teens and some who are in their 40's. We have high school students working with Grade 7 & 8s and college students working with high school students. The best times to be involved in student ministries are usually when you are in your last year of highschool, in university or college, if you are single or before you have kids. Parents get involved and make a significant impact when they have teens in the program and family dynamics favour everyone participating in the ministry together.
What if I have young children to look after?
This can be difficult depending on your babysitting needs and budget. While there are some events where it isn't a problem to bring children along, most events we require your full attention and having our children around can be a distraction. Fortunately, our leaders tend to enjoy the reciprocal blessing of complimentary or reduced fee babysitting from the students whose lives they've touched. Talk to Pastor Dwayne.
What kind of work would I be doing?
We have a variety of 'jobs' that suit a variety of personalities. We have behind the scene tasks like cooking or decorating and public tasks like teaching a class or leading games. There are easy things too like just showing up for crowd control or driving a group of teens to and from an event. Involvement depends on skill, availability, commitment level, and chemistry with the students. |
